Welder – ARC MIG TIG Stick Combo – Arizona

Brycon is continually looking for experienced and dedicated individuals who have the desire to work for an exceptional organization.

  • Weld together metal components of products, such as pipelines, automobiles, boilers, ships, aircraft, and mobile homes, as specified by layout, blueprints, diagram, work order, welding procedures, or oral instructions, using arc-welding equipment.
  • Obtain specified electrode and insert electrode into portable holder or thread consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.
  • Responsible for communication towards the education of the younger or less experienced workers.
  • Connect cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by Welding Engineer or Welding Technician.
  • Start power supply to produce electric current.
  • Strike arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to workpiece and join edges of workpiece.
  • Manually guide electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
  • Weld in fat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Examine weld for bead size and other specifications.
  • May manually apply filler rod to supply weld metal.
  • May clean or degrease weld joint or workpiece, using wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath.
  • Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes.
  • Prepare broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
  • Chip of excess weld, slag, and spatter, using hand scraper or power chipper.
  • Preheat workpiece, using hand torch or heating furnace.
  • Position and clamp workpieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture.
  • Tack assemblies together.
  • Cut metal plates or structural shapes.
  • Operate other machine shop equipment to prepare components for welding.
  • May be designated according to product welded as Welder, Boilermaker.
  • Important variations include types of metals welded, subprocesses used, trade name of equipment used, work site, method of application, high production or custom, level of ambidexterity required, type of joints welded.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months to six years of experience in trade.
  • Welders certification.
  • Valid driver’s license desired.
  • Additional specialized training in welding (orbital and PVC) desired.
  • May be required to pass employer performance test or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during work activities.
  • Skilled in reading, writing, and math.
  • Skilled in the use of mechanical and basic power and hand tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints and knowledge of mechanical applications.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of performing skilled mechanical work.
  • Methods and techniques of storing equipment, materials, and supplies is desired.
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping.
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.
  • Ability to prepare labor and material estimates.
